Post formatting examples

This page is provided as an example of all the styles you can use in your posts. Do not edit this page! You will be given a link to the actual post you have been assigned to edit.

Below are examples of the various text styles and their usages, accessible from the ‘Formats’ drop-down in the WordPress text editor.

Don’t worry, if you mess something else it’s possible to revert to an earlier revision by clicking the ‘Browse’ button next to ‘Revisions’ at the top right.

To preview what your page will look like, click ‘Preview’ in the top right. Having the preview open on another window or tab while editing is very useful, after you make a change and click ‘save draft’ you can press ‘refresh’ in your web browser to update the preview.

The actual web page will look slightly different to what you’re seeing in the editor, so make sure to ‘save draft’ and check your preview frequently!

This is the ‘Intro’ style. Please start your article with a brief summary of the contents – get the reader excited!

This is paragraph text. Have a short paragraph under the intro to expand and introduce the topic.

This is a ‘sub-heading’. It will look identical to the ‘Intro’ style to the viewer, however it helps search engines like Google to better find content on the site.

Use paragraph text for the contents of each subheading.

You can further divide the contents of the article using ‘sub-sub-headings.’

Followed again by paragraph text.

This is a ‘quote.’ Use this for when you are quoting someone verbatim. If you need to paraphrase what is said, [surround the paraphrased sections with square brackets like this.] Finish quotes with a hyphen and the name of the person you are quoting – Reginald Example, OBE

This is ‘bordered,’ use this for additional emphasis on key points.

This is a foot note. Use this at the end of the article for any citations.

Bold text and Italic text can also be added using the formatting tools, however only use these if there is not an existing style that better suits what you’re doing.

(The ‘button’ style is non-functional and should not be used.)
