In July Zoom Rockman came to Bexley Local Studies and Archive to work with our young CRAY volunteers to make a short film using puppets to tell the story of how the ‘Water Poet’ John Taylor used his writing skills to defend Christmas.

CRAY had such a great time with Zoom Rockman at his puppet making workshop. It was amazing and really inspirational to hear about how, although he was not academic at school, he began selling his comics when he was in primary school. He then went on to draw, ‘Skanky Pigeon’, for the Beano when he was only 13 years old. Already setting his ambitions and enterprise! Now he works for Private Eye and has new ventures. He has just finished University with a first degree.
Zoom’s passion for puppetry inspired all the young CRAY volunteers taking part. He was also very eager to share his skills with us and helped us draw and develop our own characters that will feature in his animation. We all created our own ‘peasant’. We then used them on a green screen. We can’t wait to see how they will feature in the animation.
We also did voice overs for some of the characters. This was lots of fun and it made us laugh!
