Transport

With a very large workforce spread over a wide area getting the workers to and from Crayford was a problem. While Crayford Railway Station was only a short walk from the factory, and trams ran past the main gates, there was no public transport covering outlying districts such as the Crays and Orpington. In I915 Vickers started their own coach service from a purpose built garage next to their new Mess Hall in Crayford Road. In support of the Vickers service, The London General Omnibus Company opened a garage in London Road in 1916.
